The Legend Behind Go Gear
Dick Ward's journey from teenage racing enthusiast to motorsport icon
A Journey of Passion
Dick Ward’s remarkable Go Gear Racing Services has turned 47 years strong. “Like many a Perth lad back then, Dick caught the racing bug when he went to Caversham circuit in 1958, as a Scotch College teenager.” What started as a teenage fascination evolved into a lifelong passion that would span continents and decades.
Go Gear has been an incredible journey for me and my team, one which I realise I'm not yet ready to end. Downsizing has renewed my interest, and I'm excited about our new setup. So, it's onwards and upwards for the next 47!"

Dick Ward
Founder & Racing Legend
Started racing as a Scotch College teenager in 1958, built Go Gear into a motorsport institution over 47 years.
Kim Ledger
Engine Specialist – Rotomotion
Lifelong friend and partner who has always built the engines, bringing rotary expertise to Go Gear’s success.
George Stacey
Suspension Development
Business partner who did most of the suspension development in the ’70s, crucial to Go Gear’s racing success.
“It would not be what it is today without people like Kim Ledger, who has always built the engines, and my business partner George Stacey, who did most of the suspension development in the ’70s.”
Originally built in 1961 as an 850cc Abarth TCR, this remarkable machine was raced by the works factory in Europe, then by Radbourne Racing in London in the late ’60s.
Dick acquired the wreck after it crashed at Snetterton in 1969 while working for Radbourne. Using the body shell from his road car and mechanicals from the race car, he created his first Sports Sedan and shipped it home to Perth in 1970.
